Spode Fine Bone China
Josiah Spode was born in Stoke-on-Trent in 1733. As well as perfecting blue
underglaze printing in 1784, he is credited with the most significant
development in the history of his industry, the formula for fine bone china.
The crowning accolade was gaining the first of the company's six Royal Warrants
following a factory visit by the Prince of Wales in 1806, now 200 years later
fine bone china is still being produced from that same site in Stoke-on-Trent.
Spode - The Original Blue
For nearly 200 years, Spode's famous blue and white designs have been loved and
admired by collectors throughout the world. Knowledgeable connoisseurs and the most renowned museums treasure their
possessions of antique wares which are amongst the most collectable in the
history of ceramics.
Using traditional techniques and designs from a wealth of authentic engravings
and moulds carefully preserved in the Spode archives, the same original designs
produced in the early 1800's are still available today in a comprehensive
selection of the most desirable items. Absolutely faithful to the Spode blue
tradition, they are set to become treasured heirlooms for future generations.
